What can Parts Work
bring to your coaching?

Anybody who works with clients on their goals and challenges knows that there can be a limit to the progress and sustainable change we can make using “classic” coaching approaches that only address our conscious desires and motivations. This might include:

  • Goal Setting
  • Reframing
  • Identifying limiting beliefs from an analytical perspective.
Being stuck in sessions

There are regularly situations where, despite our best efforts and their best intentions, clients simply “resist” change and:

  • Do not take action
  • Repeat the same behaviour over and over
  • Cannot consistently access their resources and positive beliefs about themselves
  • Stay stuck in self-criticism and procrastination

These challenges are often very frustrating and disheartening to both clients and coaches.

Parts Work gives us the understanding, skills, tools and presence to successfully support our clients in exactly the places that they are stuck.

It does this by bringing awareness to these inner conflicts and polarisations, and rather than emphasising only the positive parts that are congruent with a client’s mission, it also makes space for the parts that are in resistance, fear or struggle around goals, success or expansion.

Understanding the Parts involved

Parts work is unique in that it offers an effective toolkit to compassionately, effectively and directly work with the Parts that are holding us back, because they are:

  • Scared that we could get hurt
  • Longing to be seen and appreciated
  • Stuck in internal conflict and polarizations
  • Carrying limiting beliefs and painful emotions from the past

We all have Parts like that.
And all our clients have Parts like that.

And by acknowledging them, connecting with them and then skillfully working directly with them (rather than just trying to change the beliefs and emotions they are carrying) we can enable deep transformation and alignment in our clients. This results in a much deeper self-awareness and self-acceptance as well as an alignment between our Self and Parts.

Learn to align Parts towards goals

This course teaches you how to
confidently guide clients
in Parts Work

Based on IFS, the Internal Family Systems Therapy.

It teaches you simple tools, exercises and questions you can use in your regular sessions to help clients transform their own Parts, using the following steps:

The 6 Steps of the Course
  1. Helping clients become more aware of their Parts when they are active in the moment as well as their Self as their biggest resource
  2. Teaching them to unblend from their activated Parts — lovingly separating from them so they can anchor in their Adult Self
  3. Being compassionate with and deeply understanding their Parts, Patterns and challenges —why are they doing what they are doing?
  4. Facilitate your clients to build loving relationships with their Parts – especially those that can create Problems. This forms the base for lasting change and self-love
  5. Understanding the motivation and old survival energy that makes Parts work so hard (knowing that when this goes unaddressed, these Parts will find a way to ‘sabotage’ progress)
  6. And then negotiating with their Parts to find new ways of being that align more with your client’s self-leadership, purpose and goals — supporting them and not holding them back.

Plus: Focus on Inner Work for Coaches

2 extra Sessions

In addition to the explicit tools of working with Parts, we will have 2 extra sessions that focus on the inner work and skills coaches need to sustainably facilitate people in their personal process:

  1. Access to your own Self and Self energy – and knowing how to return there when the going gets rough in sessions
  2. Being able to track your client’s Parts and Self – through your own  body sensation and energetic perception.

What you can use the tools for

Parts Work is like the secret ‘how-to’ for your sessions.

It helps us the concrete tools and perspectives, to guide clients towards helpful states and experiences:

  • How can we help clients have more compassion for themselves?
  • How can we guide them to access and stay with their own resources?
  • How can we support them to look at their problems from a more adult point of view?
Or from the perspective of our client’s challenges:
  • How can we help clients unblend when they are stuck in self-criticism?
  • How can we help them find new perspectives on inner conflict and indecision?
  • How can we help them develop healthy patterns of behaviour?

My approach emphasises simplicity, clarity and empowerment.

Starting to work with Parts can sometimes feel a bit “Woo-Woo” and weird, especially when you are just getting started.

My goal is to make this step as simple and playful as possible.

For that I use lots of drawings in my materials to help you get the core dynamics of the techniques as easily as possible, and for you to apply them in your unique way in sessions.

Focus of the Course

Additionally, I make space to answer all the questions that arise in the practice and client-sessions during the course, as I think it is one of the most important sources of learning for everyone in the group, whether it is your question we are exploring or someone else’s!

My name is Lucas Forstmeyer. I am trained in IFS, different meditation practices and body-based therapy, and I lead workshops & sessions across Europe.

My background includes Studying Psychology, training with a Sufi-Teacher and co-teaching the trainings that teaches bodyworkers how to work with Developmental Trauma (amongst many other things!)

I am truly excited about this training, because I see the positive impact this IFS-inspired form of Parts Work has on how coaches work – and thus their clients’ lives.

Speaking from personal experience, I can see how these tools have helped me to:

  • Deal with some of the deepest Parts and Patterns of my life — from rage to fear of intimacy.
  • Integrate my deep spiritual experiences into a more normal ‘day-to-day’ experience of Self
  • Be much more compassionate with myself and my clients – understanding the deep positive intent in Parts’ behavior.

It has changed my practice and I have seen it change the practice of many people who have participated in my courses.

My biggest hope is that more humans can benefit from these wonderful tools and walk this earth with more presence, compassion and personal power.

  • Small group with a max of 20 participants
  • Partner practice between the sessions – to deepen your practice and skill — and to get experience and feedback
  • 2 videos explaining the most important concepts, tools and coaching-tips before each session
  • Recommended reading for each session
  • 1 Guided Meditation for each session
  • Material to establish an individual journaling practice using these simple tools
  • Explicit embodiment practices for each step covered in the course
  • A private chat group in which your questions will be answered and for support between sessions (I take this aspect of the training very seriously. Getting your questions answered and perspectives on your experiences, as well as that of your peers, can be one of the most important elements of being in this group).

You will need to invest time and energy for this course. You cannot expect to learn these tools and reap the benefits without practicing, studying and contemplating what we are doing in this course.

So please, only get in touch with me if you know you can invest 2-5 hours each week for study and practice (not per day as some people seem to read…)

Cost of the course: 500 Euros

  • ‘Self’ refers to our Essential Being, our spiritual core beyond personality and subpersonalities.
  • ‘Parts’ refer to the different sub-personalities we all have, each with its own way of feeling, perceiving and acting in the world.
  • ‘Patterns’ refers to a specific type of behavior that creates suffering in a person’s life. Each one of us has different patterns that are active in our life.
